Black iron steel gas pipe in walls for propane?

Posted by Filed Under Camping Water Heater with No Comments

I’m building a small camp in Maine and I want to run a gas line for a propane stove and water heater. I have a tank and regulator outside the house but will need to run the pipe about 20 feet in a framed wall to get to where the stove is. is it acceptable to run black pipe in a closed in framed wall? Is there a limit on the number of couplings and elbows that can be in a closed wall? I ‘m not planning on using any union joints but will probably need at least one coupling and a few elbows. I think this will cost me a lot less than trac pipe if it’s allowed.

any advise with camper problem?

new at trailer camping. last year i used my 1992 dutchmen camper, i used the water reserve tank cuz there was no water hook-up. this year i have a site with water. last year everything worked fine. this year when i closed the bye pass and opened the water lines to the water heater i get no water coming out of the kitchen sink, the bath still works. i tried twice, each time when i drained the hot water tank and put the valves in winterize position i would have water at the kitchen. as soon as i set the valves to fill hot water tank no kitchen, hot or cold. i didn’t bother firing up the heater cuz not sure if coils had water. sorry this is kind of wordy but haven’t found an help yet

How can I tell the size of my Hot water heater in my camper?

Posted by Filed Under Camping Water Heater with 7 Comments

I need to know if it is 6 or 10 gallon.
I can not look in the owners manual for the camper, I am the 4th or 5th owner and the manual is long gone.
I tried looking in the heater for the size, but all the info is ether burned from the hot metal, or faded in time. My camper is over 30 years old and the water heater needs to be replaced.

NOTE… scraping it is not an option. It is not a vacation camper, it is my home.

Jacket for a water heater?

Hello, I am wondering if there are any products out there that are designed to insulate your water heater. Mine is outside in the laundry room (I live in East Texas) and it we are in the coldest part of the year. I don’t ever use enough hot water to run the heater OUT, but I can’t seem to make it last very long, leading me to believe that it is losing heat by being cold outside. I don’t want to keep turning it up and run up the gas bill.

In absence of a specific item for this, I wonder if it would be safe to wrap it in anything else, old blanket, etc. I have a camping mattress that is a dense plyable styrofoam and is an excellent insulator. But don’t want to burn the house down somehow or interrupt the workings of the heater.

PS nothing wrong with the heater, it is fairly new.
