Home energy savings-Water Heating

How many of you belong to an electric Coop? If so, you will receive a monthly magazine of them with little tidbits of information about how to save energy in your home? Well, I and most of the time I actually read the magazine. But today I did and let me share with you some of the delights of information it told me. It’s time to talk about how to save money on your heating hot water.

1. Water heater temperature not higher than 120 degrees F. for households with one or two members, a setting of 115 degrees (f) work fine. Why is this important? Your water heater heats water constantly. It takes more money to heat on the higher temperatures. So it makes sense to keep the temperature down again. Of course, considering you can spend the extra money when you need to replace your water heater and the purchase of a gas water heater on demand. You heat than only the water you use. cost much less in the long run.

2. install water heater wrap per the manufacturer’s instructions. This is typically done for you, if someone else is installing the boiler for you. but, if anything, it pays to isolate correctly.

3. Drain 1-2 gallons of soil of boiler each year to sediment build-up.This is something that I personally was not aware of, and I don’t think I have ever done.If you ever get the water from a water heater drained, you will find that a certain amount of sludge builds. The amazing how much dirt is in our water and how much the inside of a boiler can contribute to this. I would strongly advise doing this as proposed. Since only need to do once a year, make it the same time each year (such as spring cleaning).

4. install heat fall on hot and cold water lines when it’s time to replace your water heater.

5. Isolate exposed hot water lines. Living in northern areas one would do this on all the lines of the water, but I think that people who live in the southern areas are not always thinking about this. It’s still get cold in the South, and certainly no exposed water lines insulation is a good idea.

6. Shower length up to 5 to 7 minutes. How many people have ever gone camping and had to use the shower in their camper?Well, if you you have certainly had to be quick to learn. Unfortunately, most of us are guilty of not complying with this suggestion.I learned to take short showers when I was in the army. but there are still times when I want to stand under a hot shower spray.

7. Install low-flow showerheads. This is one thing that my husband doesn’t like.He is actually the low-flow shower heads from the adapters.Too many times, water pressure is not very good if you’re a low-flow shower head with the combination of poor water pressure, it makes it hard to shower. Something to think about.

8. Fix dripping faucets.Always a good idea. Drippy cranes can cost a lot of money in the long term, both in the use of electricity and water.

9. do not let water run while you are shaving. I think this depends on the individual. Do you shave in the shower, bathtub, or above the sink?

10. do not let water run while brushing your teeth. This is another wise tip. What is the reason for letting the water run when you are not using it. it’s like leaving the lights on in rooms no one.
